Sustained Effect 1 Month After CSF Tap Test in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

چکیده

Background The response to CSF tap test (TT) has been considered an indicator of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) and a predictor shunt effectiveness. Although the effects TT are thought be transient, duration those not studied in detail. Method We performed retrospective analysis 32 consecutive patients with NPH who underwent quantitative gait before, immediately after, 1 month after TT. Responses were defined as 15% or greater improvements step length walking speed. Result Immediately TT, 24 showed on Among sustained was maintained 16 patients. Furthermore, among 8 without immediate response, 5 delayed Conclusion parameters for approximately half NPH. Decreased tensile strength ventricular wall might explain effects.

Changing cerebral blood flow in normal pressure hydrocephalus after the tap test can predict clinical improvement

BACKGROUND We studied the role of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tap test at idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) in improving cerebral blood flow velocity indices by transcranial Doppler (TCD) sonography. METHODS Twelve patients with assumed INPH were included in the study. The CSF tap test and INPH grading score was carried out according to the standard protocol. TCD was performed bef...

Shunt-Responsive Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Patient with Delayed Improvement after Tap Test

The cerebrospinal fluid tap test (CSFTT) is recommended as a key step in the diagnosis of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). While there is no generally accepted evaluation period for ascertaining a CSFTT responder, a substantial number of patients are evaluated only once within 24 hours of the test for improvement in gait. We report an iNPH patient with a favorable response to sh...

Lumbar Puncture Test in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus: Does the Volume of CSF Removed Affect the Response to Tap?

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE There is limited evidence to support the use of high-volume lumbar taps over lower-volume taps in the diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus. The purpose of this study is to detect whether the volume of CSF removed from patients undergoing high-volume diagnostic lumbar tap test for normal pressure hydrocephalus is significantly associated with post-lumbar tap gait per...

Comparison between the lumbar infusion and CSF tap tests to predict outcome after shunt surgery in suspected normal pressure hydrocephalus.

OBJECTIVE To compare the lumbar infusion test and the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tap test for predicting the outcome of shunt surgery in patients with suspected normal pressure hydrocephalus. METHODS 68 patients with suspected normal pressure hydrocephalus were studied. The absence of preceding history indicated idiopathic disease in 75% of these. All patients were assessed twice with walking ...

The Predictive Value of the Tap-test in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) represents 1 to 12% of dementias. It is characterized by gait disturbance, progressive mental deterioration and urinary incontinence, associated with enlargement of the ventricular system and normal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure. In typical cases, gait disturbance is the first and most salient sign, followed by forgetfulness or mild dementia, psychomotor...
